April 3, 2018 - It was our last full day in Hanoi. We wanted to just go for a walk and immerse ourselves in another neighborhood. We read about ‘The Train Street’ in a blog so we set off to find it.
This place is insane. As you can see from the shots this is little more than an alley. People with small children live on each side. Yet daily a full size train comes barreling through two or three times at over 40 mph ! I was pressed against the wall when I shot the video.
Hanoi has been our favorite city. The weather was much better. Much like a tea bag too long in it’s cup, Hanoi is steeping with Old World decadence, the rigidity of a Marxist regime, and yet a thriving capitalist community. It’s a unique brew. I mean I passed a Lamborghini dealership!
It doesn’t make any sense when you look up close. But, like a good painting, when you step back and see all of it, the whole scene is mesmerizing.
We are going to visit the countryside tomorrow for a few days. Halong Bay and the Tam Coc region here in North Vietnam will be our final stops. Then we start the long journey home.
