"The Beach"

Writer's picture: Glenn DobbsGlenn Dobbs

March 13, 2018 - Ever since Alex Garland’s seminal 1996 novel “The Beach”, Thailand has been a magnet for vagabond travelers in search of an unspoiled paradise. This place is no longer a secret and will likely be gone in this generation.

We visited Tonsai beach- the so called “Backpacker beach”. You will notice in one of the pics below a large concrete wall. Sheraton hotel has now purchased a large section of the waterfront and pushed the local family food stalls, hostels, and bars into the jungle. The same corporate attack is happening all over the peninsula.

Local artists fight back in the best way they know how, by making beautiful murals and poems on their side of the wall.

Travel day tomorrow. We leave for Bangkok.

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
