Pods of Killer Buses

Writer's picture: Glenn DobbsGlenn Dobbs

May 3, 2017 - An average London Double Decker Bus weighs 13 tons and is almost 20 feet long (I will come back to this later).

A word or two about these things. It can be said that London has a mass transport system that is the envy of the world. It is so easy and cheap to get anywhere in the city. We chose to use the bus more than the metro because we were never in a hurry and it afforded the opportunity to see the city as we traveled around.

The iconic buses are charming and often outnumber the cars on the narrow streets. Now all that is fine if you are riding the bus.

However, if you are a pedestrian these things are actively trying to kill you. With their huge size (see stats above) and hissing airbrakes they are rather like enormous pods of Orca prowling for food. They drive and swerve their huge mass at often ludicrous speed and we witnessed so many near misses that at times it was unnerving to ride

.......Let's see, what else ... We were sitting outside the BBC and while I was in the bathroom,Colleen said Kevin Bacon walked by. I think she is making it up

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
