Octopussy

The Water Palace and in the distance on the hill you will see the Monsoon Palace. Both were featured in the Bond film 'Octopussy'

“That sounds like a load of Bull.....” - Roger Moore as James Bond

Today is our last day here in Udaipur. It has been our favorite destination so far. Tomorrow we leave by car for the drive to Jodhpur, ‘The Blue City’.

The City Palace

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention James Bond. The 13th Bond film was made here in 1983. It was the 6th outing for Roger Moore as the venerable agent. The villain was in the Lake Palace below and the film featured epic chases only with Tuk Tuk’s instead of cars.

The film of course was “Octopussy”. Not a great film, it only garnered a score of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. Roger Moore was 106 years old when he made it (actually he was 56) but the judo chop knocking a thug out was rather anemic. And he and Bond Girl Maud Adams would play out their seduction scene at a Cracker Barrel. But, I digress.

There was an amazing stunt with a jet flying thru a hanger that was real. It was very dangerous and would not be done today. They would use CGI.

But Roger Moore was the Bond I grew up with so I remember it. He would go on to make one more after this before finally handing the keys to the Astor Martin to Timothy Dalton. The film is shown daily at a local bar here.

I will let my friend and Film Aficionado legend Matthew Socey fill in anything I missed.
