North of Copenhagen and a "real" Danish

Writer's picture: Glenn DobbsGlenn Dobbs

July 11-12, 2018 - We left Copenhagen and traveled by train to Hillerod. We found one of the nicest AirBnB’s we have every stayed. It sits on top of a restaurant overlooking a lake and the Fredicksborg Castle (More on that later)

Like all travel days we are tired so the quality of the Air BnB was a happy surprise. We don’t plan on much touring today. Grocery shopping is on the agenda and laundry.

It has bothered me all day. Our country can build such amazing things, but we can’t make a good pastry. The stuff here is seriously next level.

It’s now early Thursday morning here. There is a bakery next to our apartment. They are everywhere here. I went to get coffee and “a Danish”. I struck up a conversation with the baker who asked where I was from.

When I told her she said , “Ah , you just have donuts there, how sad”

Truer words were never spoken. You may begin weeping now.

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
