“The name is derived from the Latin argentum (silver). The first use of the name Argentina can be traced to the voyages of the Spanish conquerors to the Río de la Plata. The explorers who shipwrecked in Juan Díaz de Solís' expedition found native communities in the region who gave them silver presents.”

Episode XV of the road to Bali will once again take us south of the equator. We will visit our sixth continent when we travel to South America. We will go to Chili, Uruguay, Brazil, but mostly Argentina. We have never been to any of these countries nor met many who have traveled there. Both of us are curious about what lies ahead of us. We know very little about the region. We don’t know what to expect. And that what makes the journey an adventure.
We do know Argentina has made the national news recently. The country has been weighed down by a poor economy and crippling inflation. As of today it is 142% ! As a result of this overwhelming burden the country has lurched right and just elected a wild haired former TV pundit as the new president. He is a self described libertarian populist who worships at the altar of Trump. I will discuss more of this news as the journey unfolds but it is safe to say the smart play is too steer clear of politics.
These are countries rich in natural beauty. Patagonia, the Chilean alps, beautiful glaciers, fine wine and the wonder of Iguana Falls await us. We are looking forward to exploring a small part of a vast land we know little about.
The trip begins January 9th and as always, I invite you to join us. There are stories to tell.
