October 31, 2017 - We traveled outside Rome to Tivoli. It is a small town in the foothills about 20 miles east of the city.
We wanted to visit Villa D’ Este Gardens. It was a Renaissance era estate built by a wealthy family well connected to the Pope. The main attractions are the spectacular fountains and gardens that cling to the slope overlooking the Valley. The weather was very nice and as you can see the garden did not disappoint.
It is supposed to rain a lot tomorrow. We will be restocking and getting ready to leave Rome for several days on Friday. We will be traveling to Naples, Pompeii, and the Almafi Coast for a few days before returning to Rome.
