July 17, 2018 - Good morning from Fagerholm Sweden. Stockholm is surrounded by hundreds of islands that are dotted with vacation homes. As you can see, the area is really quite beautiful.
“Nobody works in July “, our Air BnB host Viktor tells us. Everyone is on holiday and here on the islands. It is easy to see why. The woods, stone, and ocean form the trifecta Colleen describes as perfect.
Our new AirBnB is one of the more unusual we have been. We are in a small cabin, the
picture above is out our front door , and the main house is across the driveway. The idea is we sleep in the cabin, like the bedroom of a home , but use the main house with Viktor to live. He is a nice attentive man and full of patriotic Swedish facts.
To say Viktor is fastidious almost to the point of exasperation is an understatement. The house is immaculate, especially for being in the woods. There is a rigid recycle routine that covers 8 categories. There are two cats with rules on how to pet them, call them, and where they can and cannot go. Every item - towels , bicycle equipment, tableware , flowers , glasses, clothes is all precisely arranged and has rules on how to use each thing. All of which he outlined for us not only verbally but with the most detailed AirBnB manual we have ever seen. (Each page is laminated).
Then the water went out last night and we learned may be out for the length of our stay. (I guess we are camping after all).
So, I am on the way to the main house, wearing the slippers he wants me to wear when I am told , “If you need to pee you need to go in the woods to save water”. Ok, I’m a guy, no problem. I turn to leave and despite the fact we are surrounded by woods, Viktor had a place he wanted me to void and in his vigorous Swedish politeness wanted to show me where.
I declined his generous offer.
