August 25, 2017 - We took a walk around the city today. This is "Gas town". In 1850 a bar was opened on the forested shoreline of Burrard Inlet. It was founded by 'Gassy' Jack Deighton. Unfortunately for Jack he suffered from a colonic condition which gave him his unfortunate moniker.
Despite it's overly flatulent founder, the area quickly flourished with the fur trade and gold rush and modern Vancouver was born. It was a slum for awhile, but now is heavily gentrified.
Around the corner from this picture there is a statue to Jack. The hind end is somewhat tarnished but otherwise it is a nice memorial.
