St Joesph Cathedral in Hanoi

April 1, 2018 - Happy Easter from Hanoi. We celebrated the day here at St Joesph’s Cathedral this morning. It is a Neo-gothic style church that dates from the 19th century.

There are some 4 million Christians in Vietnam. When the Vietminh took control of the North in 1954, the church went through decades of persecution. St Joseph did not reopen until Christmas Eve 1990

Today services are held regularly but are still scrutinized by the government. We were honored today to have the Mass presided over today by Cardinal David Nguyen. The sanctuary was packed. The service was entirely in Vietnamese but the message was clear and when Handel’s Messiah soared through the air it was quite moving.

Cardinal David Nguyen

So I wish you all Happy Easter and the hope of Matthew 28:6 as we heard it this morning

“Anh ta không ở đây. Anh ấy đã sống lại, như anh ấy nói anh ấy sẽ .... "

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
