Chorus' Famous Son

May 8, 2017 - We arrived in Newcastle England tonight. But before we got here we had a 2 hour layover with our train in York.

York is an amazing city and I wish we had more time to explore it. This is a picture of one of the gates of the Roman wall that surrounded the city when it was known as "Eboracum". It was the Roman capital of Britannia when this area was ruled by Rome circa 200 AD (Just when so thought things couldn't get older here).

We spent the layover walking the walls and visiting the cathedral.

York is 1042 miles from Rome as the crow flies. Yet the commander here was 'Constantius Chlorus' and he died here in 306AD. "So what" you say? 'Chlorus' had a son he named 'Constantine' who would later become Emperor of Rome, convert to Christianity and change the course of history of the world.
