June 20, 2018 - Dedicated to fellow traveler June Clair who so strongly encouraged us to go.
We visited the home of Edvard Grieg today. Grieg was a renowned composer of the late Romantic Era. He is beloved in Norway and particularly here in Bergen where he lived and worked. He was surprisingly diminutive, only 5 feet tall but his work was not. He is a giant in Norway because his music helped establish the national identity. His specialty was taking folk tunes and from those simple melodies creating masterpieces.

His summer home was here overlooking a glacier lake in the woods. The picture below is a concert venue built next to his home over looking a small cottage where the maestro wrote.
The highlight of the tour was a concert by Harvard Gimse, a world class Swedish concert pianist playing some works by Grieg in this very hall. If you are inclined- below is a link to a famous work we heard here by Grieg called ‘ The March of the Trolls’
Grieg had only one functioning lung due to tuberculosis. He died here at age 64. 40,000 people attended his funeral
Thanks June- it was a great tip!
