March 3, 2018 - Quieter day today. We went to the National Orchid Center and saw the strangest flower I have ever seen. This is ‘Tacca chantrieri’ - The Bat Flower. It is actually a strange variety of lily. It is a native of Thailand and requires heat, high humidity, and constant moisture to grow. So it is perfect for Singapore.
Because if there is anything this city does well it is heat, high humidity, and constant moisture. It is so hot and humid that it feels like a Basset hound (I know one) licked you all over, we passed a stand selling live full sized fruit bats as pets for kids, and instead of a little chocolate on your pillow each night at the hotel- the staff leaves a small tube of clotrimazole cream. You will need it. (Ok one of these three things is not true..)
