Market in Udaipur

February 19, 2019 -

“India is a geographical term. It is no more a united nation than the equator”

- Winston Churchill

Our neighbor is a Tuk Tuk driver with some really cute kids. We decided to hire him for the day to take us around parts of Udaipur that we have not seen.

He took us to a large market. What made it special was it was a market for locals and not tourists. It was refreshingly free of touts and hustlers and filled with whirling colors and busy people.

All of this craziness shouldn’t work as well as it does. Despite the diversity and strong religious views , there was a terrorist attack in the north a few days ago , the world spins on. People here want the same thing. Good food, a roof over their head however meager, and safety for their children. It is humbling to walk among them.

Temple to the Monkey God

There were several temples scattered among the market. One was to the Monkey God which deals with personal power. The other was to honor the Camel which is the patron of love and relationships.

So, of course for the rest of the afternoon I mourned that I could no longer enjoy the iconic GEICO ad as before. I now had to completely rethink ‘Hump Day’.

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
