A Holy Tooth

Writer's picture: Glenn DobbsGlenn Dobbs

March 4, 2018 - This is a beautiful Buddhist temple in Singapore that was built in 1980 in the Teng dynasty style.

Here is the thing- it was built around an artifact that is reportedly the molar tooth of the actual Buddha! You cannot photograph the artifact but you can see it It is venerated by the locals and placed in a lovely gold altar. It was reportedly found by a priest in Bangledesh in 1980.

The thing you notice about it is that it is really large for a human tooth. So either Buddha was as big as one of his statues or it is not of human origin. That observation doesn’t take away from the beauty of the place

We attended service at St Andrews Cathedral nearby. It was comforting to be back around my own faith’s iconography. The place was packed with locals of multiple ethnic backgrounds. And the Vicar spoke from the pulpit about the death of Billy Graham. Here half way around the world - such was the reach of his ministry

About Us

I was waiting for a baby to be born.  It was the fall of 2015 and I had been a practicing OB/GYN for over 20 years.  I could sense it was a time for change in my life.  With new insight to what was possible, we started fantasizing about what this new life could look like.  We starting to call it our “Road to Bali.”  We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but are so glad we took the first steps into this new adventure.  We hope you enjoy coming along on our “Road to Bali.”
